I ONLY hope that Councillor Williams was misquoted concerning his comments about reducing Oxford City Council’s carbon footprint by a quarter in the last three years (Oxford Mail, August 22). This is a fantastic achievement by city council employees, so you would think the Green Party would applaud the success in cutting emissions of carbon-dioxide and saving taxpayers money.
But, then again, the Green Party in Oxford have always attacked schemes which help to tackle climate change.
They opposed getting the buses out of Cornmarket, claimed that Frideswide Square was a four-lane highway and now insist a 25 per cent cut in energy use by the city council is somehow “just a con”.
Coping with climate change and rising energy costs are far too important for councillors to play politics. Surely all parties should be working together.
