Sir – Regrettably, councillor Keith Mitchell has entirely missed the point (Joint ticketing is win-win, Letters, August 4). Privatising public transport was supposed to deliver benefits of market competition, such as varied services and lower prices.
Yet his beloved joint ticketing oligopoly has brought us less choice and a further hike in fares, with a distinct paucity of cross-city services. The vaunted win-win he crows about would seem to be more for the bus companies’ profits and perhaps his own ego rather than the fare-paying public, suffering amongst the most expensive buses in the country.
Peter Smith, Botley
