MORE than two kilos of drugs, an axe and a stun gun were found in a car after five men carried out “a planned criminal enterprise to steal another gang’s cannabis”.

Police intercepted a BMW on the outskirts of Wallingford after a reported burglary at a nearby farm building.

When officers searched the vehicle they found £16,000 worth of cannabis alongside an axe and stun gun.

Illegal immigrants Tien Le, Phong Hoang and Trung Le, all from Vietnam, were jailed at Oxford Crown Court on Friday after they each admitted possessing a Class B drug with intent to supply.

Hoang also admitted possessing the stun gun and Trung Le admitted having the axe.

Two other men, who are both British citizens, will be sentenced at a later date.

Edwin Rodriguez, 19, of Brook Road, London, admitted the drugs and axe charges while 33-year-old Thanh Nguyen, of Browning Street, London, admitted the cannabis offence.

Prosecutor Jonathan Stone said a man named Tony Hill began renting a unit at Oakley Wood Farm in Benson from farmer Patrick Fenn in July 2010.

At 10.30pm on February 22, Mr Hill rang Mr Fenn to tell him there had been a break-in.

Mr Fenn’s son Martin went to investigate and found Rodriguez, and another man who has not been charged, walking along the nearby A4130.

After confronting the duo, the farmer’s son was informed police had stopped a car further along the road.

Officers found Nguyen at the wheel of the BMW, with Trung Le, Tien Le and Hoang in the passenger seats.

Inside was 1.63kg of cannabis in a bin bag, 219g of ‘fragmented cannabis’ and 14 plants containing 190g of the drug.

An expert valued the stash at £16,600 in street deals or £3,960 wholesale, Mr Stone said.

He added: “This was a planned criminal enterprise to steal another gang’s cannabis.”

The court heard 24-year-old Trung Le, of no fixed address, had been in the country for eight days having arrived on the back of a lorry.

Hoang, of Hockley Road, Manchester, told police he had got chatting to another Vietnamese man in Manchester, got into the back of his car and fell asleep.

The 32-year-old failed asylum seeker, who arrived in Britain illegally in 2005, said he woke up to find himself being arrested in south Oxfordshire.

The UK Border Agency said it had “no trace” of 25-year-old Tien Le, who has no fixed address.

Recorder Harold Persaud jailed each of the trio for 14 months and said: “This effectively involves theft of cannabis from someone else’s cannabis factory. You were all involved in this together.”

Mr Persaud said it would be up to the Home Secretary to deport the men. Rodriguez and Nguyen will be sentenced on September 1.
