I’VE recently had people asking me how my column in the Oxford Mail is going!

I never intended for mine, or Ken’s or Clive’s letters to become a saga.

Okay, Ken. I don’t think anyone is trying to justify tailgateing.

It’s unsafe, it’s not polite, and it’s just not cricket.

But it does happen. And it only happens for one reason – the vehicle in front is not going as fast as the vehicle approaching from behind.

You are absolutely correct when you say there is no valid justification for tailgateing.

We, your scorn-pouring critics, are simply pointing out the reasons why trucks tailgate, which, in the case you refer to, is you!

We also gave you a solution to this problem – pushing your right foot down a fraction more on the throttle.

Now please stop acting like the injured party, and just accept that sometimes stuff happens that you do not like.

Oh, and by the way, when you said: “We are aware that we are required to move out of the way (for emergency vehicles) when safe to do so”, you were wrong.

There is absolutely no legal requirement to move for an emergency vehicle of any type. That is a courtesy.

A big thank-you to all, especially to the editor who has to read through our drivel three times a week.
