IT was the dream wedding she had always wanted – and her dying wish.

Great-grandmother Janet Priest, from Greater Leys, Oxford, last week renewed her wedding vows with husband Terry in what she called the “perfect day”.

The 63-year-old, who has inoperable liver cancer, compiled a list of last requests earlier this month after she was told by doctors she had just three months to live.

It was dubbed her own Bucket List, after the 2007 film starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson.

The Oxford Mail and other local organisations rallied round to donate so the mother-of-five could fulfil her wishes.

And by Wednesday last week, five of her seven final requests had come true.

She was collected from her Emperor Gardens home by a horse-drawn carriage, and her wedding dress, flowers, suits and car were all donated by well-wishers.

The Oxford Mail helped provide a night at the Malmaison Hotel at Oxford Castle, along with hair and make-up.

About 150 family and friends attended the intimate ceremony at SS Mary and Nicholas Church in Littlemore, followed by the reception at the Priory pub, thanks to landlord Tim Rackley.

Mrs Priest said: “I am really grateful to everybody who made the day so perfect.”

Husband Terry, 71, added: “It was absolutely brilliant. To me, my dream was just to see her looking so happy and so beautiful.”

The couple, who met 45 years ago, had a small ceremony when they married in 1969 in Devon.

One of Mrs Priest’s wishes was to hold a carving by designer Robert Thompson, and in the ceremony, the couple’s rings were brought in a tray designed by him.

She later fulfilled another wish to have a sing-along to Irish songs as singer Ann Ryan performed.

Son Jason, 40, said: “It was emotional. Inside the church there were a lot of tears.

“It was a happy, yet sad occasion.

“It was mostly happy, but in the back of everybody’s minds was the reason why they were doing it.

“What we have is some fantastic photos and fantastic memories. We have so many things we have to be grateful for and so many things to look back on.”

Daughter Sam Barrett, 36, who was a bridesmaid, added: “It was a brilliant day.”

The only two remaining items on the list are a trip to Canvey Island in Essex where she spent childhood holidays, and a visit to the Blackpool Illuminations.
