A COUPLE will be manning a stall in Banbury market on Saturday to raise cash to help build a school in Africa.

Luke Froude is heading off to Kenya in October as part of a team from his employer Bibby, to help change children’s lives by building a classroom.

As part of the Action Aid project Mr Froude needs to raise £1,500.

He will be travelling to Africa with Banbury colleagues Kirsty Cook and Amy Johnson, and 22 other Bibby staff from around the country.

Mr Froude, 30, of Appleby Close, Banbury, said: “Each employee has to raise £1,500 to help fund the trip, but the more we raise the better the lasting impact on the community we can make.

Earlier this year Mr Froude and his wife Gemma, 29, were presented with a certificate of merit by the charity Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents (Ssnap).

The couple raised more than £20,000 for the charity works with the special care baby unit at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital, in memory of their son Finnley, who was born 12 weeks premature and weighing just 1lb 4oz, less than a bag of sugar.

Other events which raised £13,000, was a car boot sales, and an abseil down the hospital by Mr Froude, who is afraid of heights.
