A 29-year-old thief picked the wrong car to break into.
Tom Loveridge, of Ten Acres Caravan Park, Oxford, was caught on film breaking into a “police trap car” parked in Littlemore in March.
He admitted a charge of theft from a motor vehicle when he appeared at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Det Sgt Richard Pickering said: “This demonstrates how effective this type of police operation is, allowing us to target the city’s vehicle crime offenders.
“It’s just one of a number of techniques we use, and I hope this conviction will make someone who is even contemplating breaking into a car think twice before they do it.”
Loveridge was given a 12-month conditional discharge and fined £85.
