SCHOOLBOYS played sport non-stop for 24 hours to raise cash to help bomb disposal heroes.

The 19 Abingdon School pupils, aged 12 and 13, raised more than £6,000 for The Felix Fund – a bomb disposal soldiers’ charity.

The ‘sportathon’ ran from noon to noon last Thursday and Friday.

Staff and youngsters played sports such as tennis and cricket continuously.

Harry Parker, 13, from Appleton, said: “It was an extremely hard challenge but great fun.

“If we can raise the £5,000 it would be brilliant as the bomb disposal unit is the most dangerous in the Army and we really want to support them.”

Teacher Su McRae organised the challenge as her husband is the commanding officer of Didcot-based 11 EOD Regt RLC, the British Army’s Bomb Disposal Unit.

She said: “They are an inspiring group of young men who give of themselves with very little asking.

“I am proud of their efforts and I am extremely proud of their generosity and their achievements.”
