Sir – As a resident of Oxpens, my feeling is that the sale of land by BRBR might well kick-start the long awaited West End Regeneration. News earlier this year that the Westgate development plan has been revived is, I think, good news for this part of the city. However, your article does give local residents some cause for concern.

Councillor Cook says “. . . we would be keen to work with the buyer to regenerate this part of Oxford, including the five acres at Oxpens in a holistic way.”

We sincerely hope that his views take into account the wishes of local residents who are keen to ensure that Oxpens Meadow remains a public space.

In an effort to ensure this, we, under the banner of FOM (Friends of Oxpens Meadow) are working vigorously to secure town green status for the Oxpens Meadow.

The photograph accompanying your article clearly shows Oxpens Meadow, adjacent to the ice rink, as the only remaining publicly-owned green space close to the city centre. It is vital that this be retained for the people of Oxford — as our motto says, ‘Oxpens Meadow for all, for ever’.
