Strikes to shut more than 30 Oxfordshire schools

UNION officials say they know of more than 30 schools that will fully or partially close because of teachers’ strikes on Thursday.

Last night, negotiations between the Government and the National Union of Teachers and Association of Teachers and Lecturer failed to reach a resolution which would prevent the planned industrial action.

It means up to 750,000 teachers, civil servants and other public sector workers will walk out for 24 hours on Thursday.

Meanwhile, University and College Union members at Oxford and Cherwell Valley College will have picket lines at the gates to the Oxpens and Blackbird Leys campuses, as they go on strike over the pensions changes.

Schools set for partial or full closure include: All Saints Primary, Didcot; Bayards Hill Primary, Barton; Botley Primary; Burford School; Carterton Primary; Cheney School, Headington; The Cherwell School, North Oxford; Chiltern Edge School, Sonning Common; Cumnor Primary; Dry Sandford Primary; Enstone Primary; Faringdon Community College; Fitzharrys School, Abingdon; Gillotts School, Henley; The Henry Box School, Witney; John Henry Newman Primary, Littlemore; John Mason School, Abingdon; Langtree School, Woodcote; Larkrise Primary, Donnington Bridge; The Marlborough School, Woodstock; Millbrook School, Grove; New Marston Primary; Northern House School, Summertown; Our Lady’s Catholic School, Cowley; St Christopher’s Primary, Cowley; St Ebbe’s Primary; St Gregory the Great Catholic School, East Oxford; St Aloysius, North Oxford; St John’s Primary, Banbury; St John Fisher Primary, Littlemore; SS Mary & John Primary School, East Oxford; Wantage Primary; Wheatley Park; Willowcroft School Didcot.

* From 3pm on Wednesday, oxfordmail.co.uk will have the latest information available on closures.

Clearly the Coalition is not about working. They are good at loosing jobs, but no very good at creating or protecting them.
The teachers of today are teaching, training and educating the nation of tomorrow, we should be re-enforcing them and their positions, not kicking them into taking this kind of action, still its history repeating itself once more, what a shame the electorate never thought things through a bit finer while they had the chance.

I don't blame the teachers one bit. The public school
millionaires who run the Coalition are too cowardly to tackle their wealthy mates in the financial world who created all this mess. Which of the Cabinet ever had a proper job? So they want to take it out on public sector workers instead. If the Labour leadership had any guts they could run rings round this despicable Government.
