A MAN lured a student to his friend’s bedsit before sexually assaulting her and preventing her from leaving.

Hakeem Shittu befriended the 22-year-old Oxford Brookes University student on the pretext of helping her with coursework before pulling down her trousers and assaulting her.

The 28-year-old, of Cinnaminta Road, Headington, was convicted by jurors of sexual assault and false imprisonment and sentenced at Oxford Crown Court.

Recorder John Benson said: “Both [offences] arise from the same incident, just after midnight on March 18, 2010.

“The victim in this case was a young lady, a student, who you met by chance and who you arranged to meet on March 17.

“The object of the meeting was that you were going to help her as far as her coursework was concerned.

“You went to her house and the two of you spent about an hour there, where you did give her assistance with her coursework.”

The pair then went to the Corner House pub in The Slade.

Recorder Benson added: “She drank a total of two pints of beer, though it would seem you were trying to encourage her to drink more.

“It was decided that she would go back to the place where she believed you lived in order to make noodles.

“In fact, it was a bed-sitting room which your friend was renting but he wasn’t there.”

The court heard the victim sat down while Shittu cooked the noodles, which she then ate.

The judge told Friday’s hearing: “At that point, you sexually assaulted her. What you did was to pull her trousers down round her ankles, push her back on to the bed.

“She protested and it’s right to say you eventually stopped, but rather than letting her out of the house immediately you kept her there for about 10 minutes while you cleared up and washed up.

“The front door was deadlocked from inside, she could not leave.”

Recorder Benson said of the victim: “She thought you were going to rape her and she was terrified.”

Shittu was jailed for nine months and ordered to sign the sex offenders register.
