A 20-year-old who carried out an attack which left a man in a coma for six weeks has been jailed.

Samuel Smith admitted causing grievous bodily harm to Ravi Dalal, 31, in the attack outside the Crown Inn in High Street, Woodstock, on January 30.

Mr Dalal, from Cheltenham, suffered bleeding on the brain and doctors were not sure if he would survive.

Smith, from Hereford, also admitted assaulting 28-year-old Paul Murray, from Humberside, outside the Lava club in Park End Street, Oxford, on December 4.

At Oxford Crown Court on Thursday he was sentenced to three-and-a-half years’ imprisonment for causing grievous bodily harm and six months for actual bodily harm. The sentences will run consecutively.
