Sir – If Mr Jaeger (Letters, May 26) genuinely cared about improving road safety, he could far better occupy his time by trying to think of ways of reducing the eight people who are killed every single day on our roads either by cars or in cars.

I’ll even give him a couple of suggestions — lowering of the drink-driving limit, larger numbers of police checks for uninsured/banned drivers?

I personally have far more respect for Jeremy Clarkson — he’s possessed of a pathological hatred of cyclists, but he’s at least honest about the fact, and even manages to be somewhat amusing about it!

But anyway, the fact that Mr Jaeger doesn’t like my chosen method of transport really doesn’t bother me one iota.

He can continue to travel around in his noisy, smelly, polluting metal box if that makes him happy, and I’ll carry on riding on my lovely, silent, healthy bicycle.

Each to his own!

Chris Day, Kidlington
