A WHEATLEY school pupil has been selected to design the logo of a new international project.
Hannah Schofield, nine, has drawn illustrations that appear on the Commonwealth Countries League Education Fund’s 1000 Schools for 1000 Girls initiative, which is trying to persuade schools from across Britain to sponsor the education of girls in Commonwealth countries.
The initiative was launched this month in the House of Commons.
The Commonwealth Countries’ League was led for 40 years by Hannah’s great-great-aunt, the campaigner Alice Hemming, and the 1000 Girls project is now being driven by Nigerian activist Ladi Dariya, whose education was sponsored by pupils at a London school in the 1980s and ‘90s.
Hannah said: “I am hoping lots of girls will get to go to school through the project, and not just face a life of being married young.
“My great aunt’s mother founded the fund, and I like the idea I’m following in her footsteps.”
