TIME is running out for schools wishing to enter our “School Build SOS” competition and have a chance of winning a £7,500 revamp.

The Oxford Mail launched the contest earlier this month and the application form will be printed for the final time on Wednesday.

One lucky Oxfordshire primary school will be handed thousands of pounds worth of building materials and work thanks to Abingdon-based construction firm Leadbitter.

Jo Coady, promotions manager for Newsquest Oxfordshire, the Oxford Mail’s parent company, said: “Primary schools across the county are sending off their applications so they do not miss out on this fantastic opportunity.

“This is the third time we have run this competition and we are looking forward to seeing more entries and giving one school a transformation that might otherwise be out of its budget.”

She added: “I hope all schools take the time to fill out an entry form so they do not miss out.”

Your school could win anything from outdoor learning facilities, a sporting upgrade, changing rooms, to a new toilet block or bike sheds.

All you need to do is simply explain in no fewer than 300 words what the project is for and how it will benefit pupils and possibly even the wider community.

You can also submit supporting drawings, photographs and statements from parents, pupils and teachers. And please let us know how the project will be sustainable.

The work must not need planning permission or involve any major structural changes.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday, June 7.

Ten finalists will be picked and then invited to collect vouchers published in the Oxford Mail every day from Wednesday, June 15, to Saturday, July 1.

The school with the most tokens per pupil head will be the winner.

And the work for the winning project will be carried out at an agreed time during the school summer holidays.

Last year, Kingfisher School in Abingdon won a new sensory garden and seating area.

Leadbitter is a major and local construction company which works with many schools across the country and it is currently building Olympic training grounds for the 2012 games.

The competition is open to all state-funded primaries in Oxfordshire.
