PRINCE Charles proved a hit with parishioners in an Oxfordshire village when he dropped by for a concert.

The Prince of Wales visited Bampton to join a celebration at St Mary the Virgin Church, which raised money for St Michael’s Church at Stanton Harcourt.

He talked to a crowd of villagers who had turned out to see him arrive. Villager Bryoni Filja, 32, said: “He asked us all if we were local so we told him we lived in the village.

“He said it must be wonderful to live in a place like Bampton. He was charming; he couldn’t have been nicer.”

Gabriella Cairns, 11, and her sister Jemima, 10, also both spoke to the prince.

Jemima said: “He asked us where we went to school, so we told him we went to St Hugh’s. It was amazing.”

As patron of the charity Music in Country Churches, the Prince last visited the village in 2005.

Vicar of St Mary the Virgin in Bampton, the Rev David Lloyd, said: “It’s not very common for a church to say they have had two visits from the Prince.”

The service was also attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire Tim Stevenson and local resident, former Foreign Secretary and Witney MP Lord Hurd.
