IN TUESDAY’S Oxford Mail you printed a picture of the Castle Mound, having the trees cut down in 1952.
I wonder if anyone knows who the two men working were.
I believe it was George Scarrott and Mich Austin, of Ferry Road, New Marston.
George lived in Edgway Road, but his yard (no longer there) was at the bottom of the road on the left.
I can remember George and Mich cutting down the Hangman’s Tree on the top of the Mound, reported in the Oxford Mail at the time.
