LAST year’s winner of our Schools SOS competition has urged others to enter for the chance to win a £7,500 revamp.

Kingfisher School, in Abingdon, got a revamped sensory garden and a brand new seating area after collecting more newspaper tokens than any other school.

The third Leadbitter/Oxford Mail School SOS competition was launched last Wednesday.

The work is supplied by Abingdon-based construction firm Leadbitter. Kingfisher, in Radley Road, teaches youngsters aged two to 19 with severe learning difficulties.

Acting headteacher Christina Niner said: “Leadbitter has done an amazing job converting a sad sensory garden into one providing stimulating new experiences for our pupils.

“It also now gives us a calm and therapeutic outdoor classroom in which to teach our pupils with complex needs.”

To be in a chance of winning the cash prize complete the entry form right and explain in 300 words the project your school would love to see become a reality.

Let us know how the work will make a difference to pupils and the wider community, and feel free to include drawings, photographs and statements from parents, pupils and teachers.

The deadline for entries is Tuesday, June 7, and 10 finalists will be chosen.

They will then be invited to collect vouchers which will be printed in the Oxford Mail and the school which collects proportionately the most wins the prize.

Michelle Messenger, a teaching assistant at Kingfisher School, said: “Our sensory garden was falling apart and with the money we won and the work Leadbitter did has made a huge difference.

“The whole of Abingdon seemed to be collecting tokens for us – even other schools. The community got behind us.”

Your project must not require planning permission or major structural changes.

The prize money will cover materials and labour and will be carried out at an agreed time during the summer holidays.

We also want to know how your project will be sustainable.
