WOMEN’S Institute members in the Botley area of Oxford were keen to show off their talents on stage.

We have published three pictures of productions (Memory Lane, February 14 and April 4). Here is another, from the 1950s.

The photograph comes from Sylvia Clark, of Berrymere Road, Wootton, near Abingdon, who is second from the left.

The only other person she remembers is Phyllis Woodley, the lady looking like a priest with her hands aloft.

Mrs Clark has forgotten what play they were performing, but believes it was staged in the old WI hall at Botley, which was later demolished to make way for what is now the A34 Southern Bypass.

Perhaps the costumes and the words on the banner, in the background, which suggest a link with King Harold, offer clues to the show being performed?
