WHILE shopping at the Co-op in Cowley centre, I was surprised to see a sign saying what the nearest open store would be on Easter Sunday.

What is happening? I thought Easter Sunday was the only day in this country where all stores had to be closed.

Also, what is the point of making this Friday – the Royal Wedding day – a public holiday, so that everyone can enjoy watching it or take part in street parties, if the shops are still opening.

The staff who are working that day have no option but to work. If they try to refuse they may feel that their jobs would be at risk.

I have never agreed with Sunday trading or opening on bank holidays. It’s about time there should be consideration for family time.

Perhaps I am old fashioned. I am in my early 50s and work in retail, but I am becoming to feel that there are no family values left.

I know this country needs to get back on track money wise. I also know that doctors, nurses and the police have to work. But they knew that when they decided to follow their careers.

I would like to know if anyone else feels the same way as I do. I actually had the Easter weekend off, and the coming bank holiday weekend. But that is only because I booked them off as holidays.

I have asked for my name and address to be withheld as I would not like my boss to read this and risk losing my job because of how I feel about Sunday and bank holiday trading.
