Philip Marples, chairman of the extravagant headteachers’ conference organised at great taxpayer’s expense (Saturday’s Oxford Mail), is woefully missing the point when he says that “in business you would probably be paying two or three times as much”.
The point is not what would be paid, but who would be paying it.
Being self-employed, if I go to such a conference – whether to be trained or “inspired” – I pay for it, not the taxpayer.
The point, Mr Marples, is that your beano was at others’ expense. You have no right to use our money in this wasteful way.
