Teachers from the county are set to back a national strike over changes to pensions, a union leader said today.
The National Union of Teachers, which has an estimated 2,200 members in Oxfordshire schools, will ballot its members on the issue from mid-May.
If they vote for action, one-day strikes could affect schools from June.
Oxfordshire NUT representative Gawain Little, a teacher at St Ebbe’s Primary School, said: “We have had a really strong response from our members on pensions, as it affects teachers at all stages of their professional life.”
Under the Government’s plans, teachers will have to work longer and pay more into their pension fund.
