SPUD the horse and his young companions were among the visitors to the village fete in 1989. Spud is seen in the first picture, with 10-year-old Annabelle Reid riding him and Debbie Read leading him.

The second picture dates from 1976 when Stanley Gillett, who ran the village shop and post office, decided to call it a day. It was a familiar tale of too many villagers going to supermarkets.

For two back-breaking years, villagers gave up their spare weekends to build a village hall and when the third picture was taken in 1980 – 8,000 bricks and 1,000 concrete blocks later – they were about to finish their task.
