THE organisers of the CLA Game Fair and other organisations such as Oxfordshire County Council and Thames Valley Police certainly seem to have made great strides in trying to alleviate the effect of traffic from the event.

Now it comes down to hoping and praying.

We don’t say that as any criticism of their planning because there is a range of initiatives that, while small in isolation, will hopefully add together to become a greater sum.

But the problem with traffic is it is like water: It will find its own path of least resistance and that is not always easy to predict.

The plan to bring in a helicopter and police officers and fair staff on motorbikes to react to problems, opening up the entrances to roundabouts on the A44 and making the Swinford Toll Bridge free to use are positive signs.

There will, however, be some congestion. It is inevitable.

The best thing that local people can do though is to attend the meetings planned in their communities to hear of the transport schemes for their areas.

That will give them some insight in which sticking points to dodge.
