It iS surprising that the members of Oxford Pedestrians’ Association make no mention of bicycles in their search for clutter obstructing pedestrians. (Oxford Mail, April 12).

They are often the cause of walkers being forced to go in single file or even on to the road.

Bikes are locked to street furniture and slide down across the pavement, and are ridden in Cornmarket Street and Queen Street in both directions outside the permitted hours.

Perhaps the amount of yellow ribbon needed would make marking them prohibitive – and difficult if they were on the move.

Or, perhaps, there was a reluctance to upset cyclists who may also be members of OPA.

One could not help noticing that the Mail’s On yer Bike columnist, in the same issue, makes no mention of pedestrians while she is out riding the towpaths without a care.
