No one who was on the roads in and around Oxford on Friday, July 25, 2008 will forget the chaos. The arrival of tens of thousands of people for the 50th anniversary CLA Game Fair, coupled with a crash on the A34 at peak commuter time combined to produce gridlock on much of the county’s roads.

It was clear that a huge amount of work needed to be done before the Game Fair could return to the grounds of Blenheim Palace.

Today, we report on the proposed traffic changes, which have resulted from two years of consultation with local people, local authorities and police.

Their simple aim is to try to ensure that when the Game Fair returns for its fourth visit to Blenheim, on July 22-24, that things go much more smoothly than they did in 2008.

It is important that they do, because the Game Fair is an event of international standing, attracting tens of thousands of people and delivering a financial benefit to the area, estimated by the organisers at about £15m.

The changes to traffic management look comprehensive and well thought out. We hope they prove effective.
