Sir – I would like to comment on just one aspect of Reg Little’s article on the development of Oxford University’s Old Road Campus (University’s £57m Campus Bid, April 7).
As reported, the revised plan does indeed move the Nuffield Department of Medicine building back from Old Road.
However, this was confirmed to me as being by two metres, but 1.5 metres to another visitor to the exhibition. This concession needs to be considered in the context of a building which would be 18.5 metres high (22 metres to top of flues) and within a few metres of Old Road itself.
It is true that there is a tree screen between the proposed building and the road, but in winter the cover given is minimal.
The proposed new building would dominate the surrounding area, and particularly the residential properties along the northern side of Old Road.
This point was highlighted at the first consultation with residents, and the fact that virtually nothing has been changed, explains the disillusion and anger felt by local residents about the consultation process.
