Sir – I have come up with a possible solution to two eternal problems and possible part-time employment for a suitable applicant in Witney. I have written to you in the past about the annoying practice of lazy people throwing their litter anywhere except the bins provided. Yes we have traffic/litter wardens working in the day but I am referring to empty or still half full, fast food containers and the like often purchased by people on leaving pubs.

This would entail someone having to work a 10pm-3am shift, but if the pay was pro rata and perhaps a bonus as well for fining these people on the spot at the current sum would more than cover the cost.

Also from the amount of litter I see in the early hours of the morning, if a surplus arose perhaps funding would be available to fill in the numerous potholes that are everywhere!

I nominate Corn Street, Church Green and Market Square, as the first priority.
