THE smiles and giggles just keep coming, as the Oxford Mail Baby of the Year competition continues.

Over the next week until Saturday, April, 9, photographers will in Matalan in the John Allen Centre in Cowley, Oxford, taking more pictures every day from 10am-4pm.

Sam White, 36, was busy trying to make her nine-month-old son George Page laugh for the cameras this week.

She said: “I brought him along because he is gorgeous. My mother said you have to put him forward. She is convinced he can win.”

Every tot who has their picture taken will feature in the Oxford Mail i a special supplement to be published in early May. Readers will then be asked to pick their favourite.

The competition is free to enter and the winner will receive a trip to Disneyland Paris.

Lily Howley, 19, from Littlemore, said: “It’s great because you just have to pay for the cost of the paper.

“You get a professional photo for free which is great because they are usually so expensive.”

Her daughter Ruby, who celebrates her first birthday today, enjoyed her time in the spotlight. Ms Howley said: “She loves to pose.”

Gemma Thomas, 31, was there with the youngest of her four children, Ralphy Morris, and his grandmother Pam Thomas.

Mrs Thomas said: “Well, he smiled, which is the main thing. We didn’t think he’d smile, but he does love the camera.”

The contest is open to children aged up to three and there will be three age categories: nought to nine months, 10 to 18 months, and 19 to 36 months. The winner will be picked according to the number of votes, which can be cast by text or by phone.

The photographer will be in Matalan between 10am and 4pm today and tomorrow, and every day next week.
