What a major embarrassment Britain’s Foreign Secretary William Hague is turning out to be.

Two weeks ago he was claiming that Gaddafi of Libya had fled to Venezuela despite his regular appearances on Libyan TV. Then came the botched SAS mission in eastern Libya, which neither the rebels or Gaddafi’s regime welcomed.

Incidently, only a few months ago, the UK was busy selling arms to Libya.

After that, Mr Hague announced there was definite proof that Iran was providing the Taliban in Afghanistan with rocket munitions because although there were no identification marks, they had green fuses which, he claimed, was the ultimate proof.

It is interesting to note that both Iran and Venezuela have something in common in being hostile entities, both preferring to hold on to their own oil revenues for the benefit of their population.

Finally, Mr Hague criticised Hamas in Gaza for being un-democratic, apparently unaware that Hamas was elected for the whole of Palestine through the ballot box.

It was the European Union and the USA which refused to recognise or deal with it and, instead, preferred the unelected Palestinian Authority in the West Bank led by a real dictator – Abbas.

Hamas, of course, we tend wrongly to associate with terrorism as opposed to its main aim in resisting an illegal occupation, according to international law, and running the civilian administration in Gaza, including schools and hospitals.

What next I wonder?
