COMMENT: Keep radio local

This article is brought to you by our exclusive subscriber partnership with our sister title USA Today, and has been written by our American colleagues. It does not necessarily reflect the view of The Herald.

WE struggle to see why the BBC wants to remove local content from Radio Oxford.

The station has been trumpeting its 40th birthday recently and any axeing of local shows in favour of national output would hugely damage the BBC’s credibility.

There are critics of BBC local radio but it gives an important voice to communities across Britain.

And with £3.6bn in licence fees sloshing in to the BBC every year, it can hardly need to cut costs.
