You report that the city council’s director of regeneration is leaving this month after three years in the job (Oxford Mail, March 7).
I have nothing personal against this gentleman, but he has been paid £109,000 per year (after a pay rise of more than 15 per cent) to regenerate the city, which is rather excessive pay for no visible improvement.
He has apparently been promoting the Northern Gateway business park near Pear Tree – which will increase the traffic problems in that area – and presiding over the farce of redeveloping the Westgate.
He is also quoted as saying that we need more student housing – like the St Clement’s project – to take the pressure off rented houses.
But surely the colleges (most of which are rolling in money) should be building adequate accommodation for all their students?
