I WAS very sad to read that, as part of their cuts, our county council finds it necessary to strip £37m from the care budget (Oxford Mail, February 10).
This means that care home places, care workers and transport to day centres would be axed, causing extreme hardship and financial difficulty to the most vulnerable in our society.
And all this despite being promised that the poorest would not be targeted.
That was bad enough, but when, later that day on the television news, we were told that despite Government efforts to reduce annual bonuses to the bankers, they are still to receive millions of pounds in bonuses, my sadness changed to anger and revulsion.
These people are paid very high salaries for the job they do. They do not deserve any extra.
Surely this money should be channelled to where it is needed most, not to make the rich richer, and the poor poorer.
If these bankers have any conscience at all, they will forfeit their millions and donate the money to help the vulnerable and elderly who have contributed towards their wealth during their working life.
Maybe then our opinion of the banking industry will improve.
