A MAN telephoned police to say he had strangled his wife then asked about a football score when officers arrived, jurors heard.

Sean Freaney, 51, went on trial at Oxford Crown Court yesterday for the murder of partner Lisa Consterdine.

The 48-year-old mother of two was found dead at the couple’s home in Purslane Drive, Bicester, a year ago today.

Prosecutor Neil Moore said: “Mr Freaney told officers, ‘I’ve killed her, I’ve strangled her’ and he then began to cry.

“He then said, ‘do you know what the Man U score is?’.

“In the back of the van he then said, almost as a quip, ‘haven’t you got any cushions?’”

Opening the prosecution case, Mr Moore said the pair’s relationship “was less than completely harmonious” and “both would drink more than they should”.

He said the defendant made two 999 calls, one at 1.20am and one at 1.40am, in which “he told the operator precisely what he had done”.

In recordings played to jurors, Freaney was heard to say: “I’ve actually killed someone, so I want someone to come round and pick me up.

“If you don’t hurry up I’m going to start killing everyone.”

He later told the operator he had a handgun, although Mr Moore said none was found at the scene.

In the second call, as an armed police response unit was being prepared, Freaney said: “I’ve murdered someone. I’ve strangled her.

“I just want someone round here to take me out of here before I kill someone else.”

In the house at the time were Miss Consterdine’s grown-up daughters Claire and Kathryne Forster, Kathryne’s fiance Martin Edgerton and Claire’s 11-month-old daughter Akeria.

Officers arrived just before 2am and found Miss Consterdine lifeless on her bed. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Mr Moore said.

Freaney denies murder.

The trial continues.
