Police today appealed for help in tracing a missing man who went missing near the M40.

Edwin Arnold, 70, was a passenger in a car that was stuck in traffic on the northbound carriageway of the M40 this afternoon.

Shortly before 6pm he got out of the vehicle, close to junction 4, to go to the toilet on the embankment and walked off.

He has not been seen since.

Officers are continuing to carry out a search of the area and are asking for the public to report any sightings of Mr Arnold.

Insp Dave Bryan said: “Mr Arnold is clearly vulnerable because of his age, the cold night time temperature and the fact he has gone missing in a dangerous location.

“We have had one unconfirmed sighting of Mr Arnold since he went missing which was by the A404 on the Handy Cross roundabout.”

Mr Arnold, who answers to Nick, is white, 6ft tall, slim with grey hair. He is wearing a grey tweed jacket, white shirt, grey trousers and brown shoes.

Anyone who has any information about his whereabouts should contact police urgently via 0845 8 505 505.
