EIGHT people have been arrested in Oxfordshire since the introduction of a new website featuring criminal suspects in the Thames Valley.

Crime charity Crimestoppers launched their Most Wanted website for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire in August last year.

The site features people suspected of committing crime who have evaded the police and appeals to the public for information about their whereabouts.

Of the 104 appeals posted, 37 people have been arrested, including eight from Oxfordshire.

Among those caught was Adelle McColl who was jailed for two-and-a-half years for attacking Paul Bishop with a vodka bottle in Didcot in March 2009.

McColl, 41, of Hamble Road, Didcot, had been on the run from police after failing to turn up for her trial in June last year. She was found guilty in her absence of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Others have been charged pending court hearings, bailed or released without charge.

There are 16 on-going appeals related to Oxfordshire on the website, including appeals for information on distraction burglars.

Det Chief Insp Ray Howard, who is in charge of intelligence gathering for the force, said: “Some of those arrested were wanted on suspicion of very serious crimes involving violence. We are grateful for the help of the public.”
