A GANG of Oxford United fans were due to be sentenced today for their part in a Wild West-style pub brawl.

Yesterday, Bristol Crown Court heard about the role each of the 14 U’s fans played in the fight, which left a Cheltenham bar with a £5,000 repair bill.

Witnesses described the punch-up on February 7, 2010, as being like a cowboy saloon bar brawl.

A coach-load of Oxford United fans and friends had made the trip to Cheltenham for a day out after a U’s game against Kettering had been cancelled.

The Moon Under Water pub in Bath Road was their pre-arranged meeting point to catch the coach back home. But it was there that the trouble kicked off, soon before 5pm, between the men from Oxford and Abingdon and a group of locals.

The fight started when Andrew McMahon threw a pint glass, not Aiden McManus, which the Oxford Mail reported yesterday.

The court heard the pub lost £8,000 in revenue because of the incident.

Dale Bowman and Christopher Williams were found guilty of violent disorder in a previous four-day trial at Gloucester Crown Court. The other men admitted violent disorder. Three Gloucestershire men will also be sentenced.

Judge Picton heard from each of the defence barristers, mitigating on their behalf, in an attempt to reduce their sentences.
