THE future of a crumbling community hall in Witney is under threat due to soaring costs.
Witney Town Council is considering selling Langdale Hall in Market Square. A final decision has not yet been made, but councillors have admitted it is one option they are looking at.
The hall is in a bad state and is particularly in need of a new boiler. It is also one of four in Witney.
Keeping Langdale Hall open cost the council £61,916 in 2009/10.
An estate agent said if the hall was sold as an entertainment facility, it could reap £500,00. But he said if it was turned into shops and flats, it could be worth up to £1m.
Councillor Peter Dorward said: “If money isn’t spent on it, it runs the risk of being condemned for being unfit for use and being unsafe.”
