‘BREAKFAST at Audrey’s’ is just one of the perks being offered by a husband and wife team recruiting fellow runners for this year’s OX5.

Michael and Ohm Boyd, of High Street, Woodstock, were inspired to enter the charity event at Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, on Sunday, March 20, after their baby daughter Audrey spent four weeks in Oxford Children’s Hospital.

Mr Boyd, 51, who owns Berlitz Language Centre in Oxford High Street, said: “Audrey has had serious feeding problems and at one point lost a whole kilo of weight in just a week.

“Since she was born six months ago she has spent four weeks in hospital, being helped by the wonderful staff.

“There have been some very anxious times, but the hospital paediatricians and dieticians found a high calorie milk to help her and had great results after feeding her for a time through a tube in her nose.

“We brought her home at the beginning of this month and she is now six kilos, gaining weight and doing well, but we have had fabulous continued support from the hospital, including weekly weigh-ins.

“We want to say a big thank you to them by forming a team for this year’s OX5.”

Last April, more than 850 runners completed the OX5 Run and raised £57,000 for the hospital charity Chox.

This year the organisers want 1,000 runners to beat that total. All sponsorship money raised goes towards buying vital equipment for the hospital.

Mr Boyd said: “My wife is an Audrey Hepburn fan, which is partly why we called our daughter Audrey, and also why we are naming our OX5 team Breakfast At Tiffany’s.

“We hope to be a team of six and we will kick off the day of the run with a slap-up breakfast at our house.

“Then we hope Audrey, our son Thomas, 12, and other friends will watch as we run the race. We’re looking forward to it and also to raising as much money as we can for this wonderful hospital, which helps so many parents like us.”

The Oxford Children’s Hospital was built in 2006 at the John Radcliffe Hospital site.

Children receive treatment for conditions including heart disease, chest problems, childhood cancer, neurological disorders and general and specialist surgery.

Equipment bought with last year’s OX5 sponsorship cash included a cooling system used to help prevent children at risk of cerebral palsy from developing the condition.

Oxford recruitment firm Allen Associates, will sponsor the OX5 Run again this year.

Registration for the event is open.
