Villagers have been given a month to save Culham Parochial Primary School.

Oxfordshire County Council is considering closing the 160-year-old school as a headteacher cannot not be found.

There are now just 24 pupils at the school and funding is dwindling.

But the council’s cabinet today agreed to give governors and campaigners another month to find a headteacher or share leadership with another school.

It also wants to see a finance plan for the next three years and evidence there is demand for at least 40 places before it meets again on March 15.

Andrew Churchill-Stone, chairman of governors, said: “Cabinet have recognised the work we have done. They see the feeling in the community and they are ready to give us a chance.”
