I write to express my disappointment at the way the death of bomb hero Staff Sergeant Olaf Schmid has been portrayed.

This man was a hero doing a job many people would not want to do. His memory should not be scarred by comments like “he was impatient”.

He was thinking of his family back home, just as all armed forces personnel do when they are away on duty.

He deserves praise for what he did during his tour of duty, not condemnation now he is no longer with his family.

It is a good job his stepson is not old enough to understand what is being said, as it could have a long term effect on him.

All good wishes to his wife and stepson.
