HAS anyone noticed how unfriendly and grumpy many bus drivers are in the Oxford area?
Years ago you were more often than not greeted with a cheery ‘hello!’ or ‘good morning!’ by bus staff. These days many drivers can hardly be bothered to make eye contact, never mind welcome you on to their buses.
They look as if they are thoroughly fed up with their jobs.
We all know that most people have a job that can be monotonous or boring at times, but with one that involves customer service, I would have thought it would be a crucial part of their training.
Also, the majority of drivers pull away seconds after receiving passengers’ bus fares, and I have seen many cases of people nearly losing their balance as they try to get to their seats.
Are the drivers under so much pressure to keep up with their timetable that customer safety comes second?
Please could the managers of the bus companies retrain their drivers to be more customer-friendly and respectful, and remind them who ultimately pays their wages.
