PLANS have been submitted for a solar farm at Cornbury Park, near Charlbury, the home of Lord and Lady Rotherwick.

The application to West Oxfordshire District Council says the 23 hectare site will help meet the “global challenge” of climate change, promote biodiversity and help safeguard UK energy supplies.

It is estimated the farm would produce about 4,595 megawatt hours of energy a year, providing energy for up to 1,000 homes and saving about 2,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.

It would bring the owners about £1.3m a year from the Government scheme that pays solar farm owners.

The panels would be raised on frames to allow sheep to graze beneath, and the application says the site is “well screened” to minimise its impact upon the landscape.
