Sir – Dick Woolf is right(Report,January 27), there certainly needs to to be another cycle track under Botley Road railway bridge. If there really is room in the carriageway, then fine.
But putting in more traffic lights to make the bridge one-way might be even less popular with cyclists than the status quo.
There are too many traffic lights in this area already, unless it could be done by simply moving the light on the eastbound lane, the one near the station entrance, to the other side of the bridge.
When I use this route, it always seems to me that an obvious, and elegant, solution would be to put an eastbound cycle track above the footpath.
There is plenty of room vertically, and it could be attached to the bridge wall on one side, and by pillars on the other, with a rail to stop people falling off it.
Or maybe the pedestrians could go on the upper path, and the cyclists below?
Would Network Rail be willing to let us drill a few holes in their bridge to attach it?
