IT was predictable, but is nevertheless fascinating, that Oxfordshire’s literary and media stars should protest loudly about proposed cuts to library funding (Oxford Mail, February 4).
I will reserve my respect for those of Oxfordshire’s glitteratii who express concern for the plight of care services for the elderly, learning disabled, physically disabled and those with mental health problems.
These services account for around a quarter of a billion pounds per annum and face mind blowing cuts to meet the coalition Government’s necessary reduction in public spending. Sadly, they do not seem to come within the narrowly focused vision of Mark Haddon, Philip Pullman, Kirsty Young and others.
