THE second phase of Didcot’s Orchard shopping centre could be open by the end of 2013.

David Buckle, the chief executive of South Oxfordshire District Council, said that negotiations with developer Hammerson were nearing completion.

The expansion would be on a 10-hectare area to the east of the centre. The first phrase opened in 2005, along with the Cornerstone arts centre and cineworld cinema Mr Buckle said: “So far, talks have been going very well and we are now looking to complete a development agreement before the end of the financial year in March.”

He said: “Completion of the second phase in 2013 is still realistic, if we’re able to conclude an agreement.”

Didcot Chamber of Commerce chairman Mike Foster said: “This is good news. The Orchard Centre is doing well and I know the Body Shop is one of the best performing branches in the country.”
