Mum Lynne Whitley is doubtless familiar with the classic Drifters song lyric ‘Kissing in the back row, at the movies on a Saturday night…’ as it was this sentiment that prompted her to enter the Oxford Mail and Odeon Cinemas Golden Ticket Competition to win tickets for a whole year to the cinema in Oxford.

Not for herself, mind you, but her daughter, Zoe, 17.

Readers of the Mail’s entertainment supplement, The Guide, were asked, in no more than 40 words, to say just why they thought they deserved to win this amazing prize and Lynne, from Yarnton, wrote: “To win the ticket would be bliss, “So my daughter Zoe and boyfriend Chris, “Could give our house a miss, “And go the cinema instead for a kiss.”

And earlier this week, Zoe and her boyfriend Chris Rickell went along to the Odeon, in George Street, to collect their ‘golden ticket’ from manager David Williams.

A delighted Zoe said: “Mum mentioned she’d entered the competition but I didn’t think she’d win.

“It’s a fantastic prize and I’m really impressed by mum.”

Chris added: “I thought Zoe’s mum’s poem was quite witty but as for kissing, I think I’ll try to watch the films.”

Odeon manager Mr Williams said he hoped the couple would enjoy the prize.

“There are some wonderful films coming out this year so I’m sure they’ll have a great time seeing them all,” he said.
