The article that appeared in the Oxford Mail last Friday, Villagers say no to wind turbine, highlighted the strong feeling that Horspath residents have against the giant turbine proposed for the field adjacent to their historic village.

However, while it reported that “there is now solid support for the campaign against the wind turbine, both inside and outside Horspath”, it failed to mention some of the key opponents outside the parish who are lending their valuable support to the campaign against the proposed turbine.

These include the Oxfordshire branch of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE), South Oxfordshire District Council, and Garsington Parish Council – all of whom were represented at the residents’ meeting and who confirmed their wholehearted support for the campaign.

CPRE Oxfordshire, for example, has been at the forefront of the campaign against the proposed turbine since the scheme was first announced in the summer of 2009, on the grounds that it will affect a vast area of rural Oxfordshire, the precious strip of Green Belt between the city and the village, the views from countless heritage sites in and around the historic city of Oxford, the amenity of local residents and the local environment and wildlife.

As such, CPRE has been providing the residents of Horspath with help and advice, and financial support in this important campaign, and we will continue to do all we can to prevent the city council from pursuing this energy-inefficient and environmentally damaging scheme.
