Short term pain for long term gain. That is certainly the case with today’s news about the city’s Iffley Road.

About 70 weeks of roadworks will create merry hell with your journey into work every morning.

From The Plain to Donnington Bridge Road the road is set to be torn up.

But, the message is clear: Put up with it.

Because Iffley Road is in desperate need of a revamp.

It is, without doubt, one of the worst main roads in Oxfordshire and is crying out for work.

Cracks, bumps and lumps litter the street making car, bus and bike journeys, a rough ride to say the least.

It is perhaps surprising £2.5m is available to get the road sorted out in the current economic climate.

The planned crossings and new road surface will be a welcome respite.

You may just have to alter your route to work for a few months.
