THE final battle over where hundreds of homes should be built in Wallingford is coming to a head with a crunch vote tonight.

Residents are fighting South Oxfordshire District Council’s decision to allow 400 homes at Slade End Farm and have until January 21 to make objections.

Eric Dore, clerk of Brightwell-cum-Sotwell Parish Council, said the council should allow housing at the alternative Winterbrook site, which is closer to the town centre.

Berkeley Homes wants 380 homes and a 60-bed care home at the Winterbrook site.

And developer Wates wants to demolish No2 Winterbook for an access road to 98 homes. South Oxfordshire District Council’s planning committee will make a decision on the plans at a meeting at 6pm tonight at the council offices in Crowmarsh Gifford.

Officers want both schemes refused.

Winterbrook resident David Walters said: “The district council has made its decision on where new homes should go and the developers should respect that.”

Residents can comment on the housing strategy at southoxon.gov.uk/ corestrategy until 4.30pm on January 21.
